Geographic situation

North of the 51st degree of latitude, southern slopes of the Elb alley.

The estates topography allows sun rays to fall from different angles which is of particular advantage in viticulture. Spring begins at the end of April / start of May which causes the vines to blossom early and has a positive effect on development and ripeness. As a result of the long ripening period minerals are deposited particularly well and so produce a high fruit extract.

Climate

1570 hours of sunshine per year. With an average annual temperature of 9.2°C the Elb valley is the warmest region in Saxony. The average precipitation is 600 - 700mm per year. As the vines blossom early and the grapes are harvested late this allows a lot of time for minerals and rich fruit extracts to be stored.

Soil types

sand, residual soil, clay
