190 years of sparkling wine tradition

Cheers! In 1836, three resourceful winery owners in Radebeul founded one of Europe's oldest sparkling wine producers – later known as the Bussard sparkling wine cellars. Their first cellar master was the experienced sparkling wine expert Johann Joseph Mouzon from Reims. He brought the sparkling art of classic bottle fermentation from his French homeland to the Elbe Valley.

Today, Schloss Wackerbarth masterfully continues the great tradition and craftsmanship of the Bussard winery. The fine sparkling wines from Radebeul remain among the undisputed best in Germany to this day.

The best dry sparkling wine in Germany

A very special award for Schloss Wackerbarth and Saxon sparkling wine: at the “German Sparkling Wine Award 2025” organized by Meininger Verlag, we were able to prevail against renowned competition from the best German sparkling wine producers this year. Our “Hommage 1836 Weiß” was voted the best dry sparkling wine in the competition.

Sparkling Wine & Herbs

On a 90-minute herb walk through the Wackerbarthberg, you will discover which plants are native to the Saxon vineyards. Afterwards, enjoy a vegetarian 3-course meal in our restaurant, refined with seasonal wild herbs and rounded off with sparkling delicacies from our own production.
